As numerous sites are reporting, the HTC Sense interface on HTC Android phones stores thumbnail images of certain Web pages. This would seem to be a security issue, as these thumbnails are not erased when the user performs a factory reset. However, Phonescoop has been able to duplicate the issue on an HTC Aria, and these images are actually stored on the microSD card inserted in the phone's expansion slot, not in the phone's internal memory. The microSD card is almost never wiped during a factory reset. Furthermore, only thumbnails of bookmarked pages are stored, not the entire browsing history. Users can find the thumbnails on their microSD card by searching for a hidden folder called .bookmark_thumb1. Erasing the microSD card should alleviate any security concerns.

Technical Question.

What if someone were to use the phone WITHOUT the card. Would the device not default to onboard memory? If so, this would be a difficult removal process and render the device useless for resale. True? I would like to know before removing my card for upgrade.

JB.
