Today at its Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced the new iPhone. The device is called iPhone 4. iPhone 4 features a brand new design for the hardware, and includes metal and glass materials (front and back). It is thinner than previous versions of the iPhone. Apple CEO Steve Jobs said, "It is just 9.3mm thick, that is 24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS." It has a front-facing camera, uses a microSIM, and has two microphones for noise suppression. The external steel bands used to construct the body of the iPhone 4 are used as its radio antennas, including 802.11n Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and 3G. The iPhone 4 incorporates what Apple calls a "Retina Display." The new display offers a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch, which is higher than the human eye's threshold of resolving 300 pixels per inch. The display measures 3.5 inches, has 960 x 640 pixels, in-plane switching, and has a contrast ratio of 800 to 1, which is a 4X improvement over the iPhone 3GS. As with the iPad, the iPhone will also be driven by Apple's home made A4 1GHz processor. The iPhone 4 has an improved battery, and Apple claims it will provide 7 hours of 3G talk time, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music playback, and 300 hours of standby time. It supports quad-band GSM/EDGE and quad-band HSDPA/HSUPA (7.2Mbps down, 5.8Mbps up) cellular networks. The iPhone 4 keeps the iPhone 3GS' maximum storage capacity of 32GB. The iPhone 4 also has a new gyroscope. By tying the gyroscope to the compass, accelerometer and GPS, Apple says the device can register six-axis movement and should improve the iPhone 4's gaming abilities. Apple says that the camera system for the iPhone 4 is completely new. Apple has improved the camera from 3 megapixels to 5 megapixels, and has what it calls a "backside illuminated sensor" to improve low-light performance. It has an LED flash, 5x digital zoom, and touch-to-focus. The camera also records 720p HD video at 30 frames per second. It has an LED light for low-light situations, and includes on-device video editing through iMovie for iPhone, which includes titles, transitions and other features. It will be available for $199 in the U.S. for the 16GB model, and 299 for the 32GB model starting June 24.

And whats the point of Netflix since the

iPhone 4 doesn't have a HDMI output? 😕

I wouldn't want to watch moives that much on my iPhone, if I had one.
Erm...you know, mobile phones are supposed to be mobile, and some people *gasp* might actually want to watch movies on the go.
...
Uhm this is if let's say you're on the go and want to watch a movie.

Who cares about HDMI output? No seriously, I can't imagine wanting to pay for HDMI output on a cell phone. If I'm watching a movie on my TV I want the cell phone in my pocket, no...

How many movies can a person watch with a measly 200mb's, or even 2gb's. Both 200mb's & 2gb's pretty much amounts to *nothing*!!!!!

I Don't Care If this New iPhone Had A Halodeck ...

...with a h00ker who materialized and blew me.

If it's still only AT&T or forget it, then Mr. Jobs, FORGET IT !!!!!!!!! You can't be that stupid enough not to realize how many of these things you'd be selling if you also introduced a Verizon version. A recent Forbes magazine article explained how stupid and/or pig headed you'd be for not going with the other 3 major carriers on this one, especially Verizon. And don't hand me this exclusivity with AT&T BS, you could circumvent that if you really wanted to. That was also part of the Forbes position.

AT&T is scared sh|tless of this device coming out on Verizon, and everyone knows it. Every single iPhone user I've talked to in the NYC area has sworn to me they'll jump ship the moment they...

Android devices on other carriers are good, even T-Mobile.
But Android device from AT&T is.....(you name it)
...
Haha. You think Verizon would solve the problems with the iPhone in NYC? First of all, Big Red has half the bandwidth of AT&T, meaning that their network would handle this device with even LESS efficiency than AT&T's. Second, Verizon's CEO has said t...

What gets me is this

Even a local news outlet was talking about this last night on there 5pm news. Never mentioned the EVO at all the entire launch weekend.

Not only is at&t in bed with Apple, so is the media.

Wow. Only 70 posts after 1 day?

I guess the iPhone(Please use the definite article. Uncle Steve is really annoying article less references to Apple products as if it were an individual) isn't as exciting as it used to be.

On another note, this feels like a spec sheet for any other phone. It's just a checklist of new and improved features instead of touting why the whole package is better.

I am absolutely sure it won't have AWS 3G, guaranteed!!!!!!
Enjoy $105 for 10GB with ATT, T-Mobile USA is no more!
What does not having aws 3g mean? does it mean it won't work with tmo 3g network?
