OmniVision today introduced a new system-on-a-chip camera module that has a 5 megapixel CMOS sensor that can record video at 1080p HD. According to OmniVision, the OV5640 records 1080p at 30 frames per second and 720p at 60 frames per second. It also has autofocus, image stabilization, and comes in an 8.5mm x 8.5mm x 5mm module, which OmniVision says is small enough for today's thinnest handsets. The OV5640is sampling now and scheduled to go into full-scale production during the second half of 2010.

1080P at 30 Frames = Oxymoron?

Doesn't the P stand for Progressive Scan, which is 60 frames per second?
