According to the Wall Street Journal, Verizon Wireless will be promoting and launching two new Android handsets made by Motorola. "We will introduce new Droid products in the Verizon franchise," said Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha. Jha also indicated that Verizon will be supporting its devices with marketing campaigns similar to that seen promoting the original Motorola Droid. Since Verizon Wireless is the entity licensing the Droid brand from Lucasfilm, it is up to Verizon to bestow its best Android handsets with the Droid brand. Motorola is banking its survival on the strength of the Android platform. Most of the handsets it has released in the last nine months have all been based on Android. Jha didn't provide any specifics about the devices it will be releasing in July.

I really hate the term Droid...Its ANDROID.

Step away from the phone and go watch Star Wars.
Droid is a particular line of Android phones... so stfu

Droid is a marketing term for a particular line of "android" phones. Nobody calls the G1 a droid, or the nexus one a droid. Motorola and Verizon got together and wanted to make this their flagship phone to introduce the android platform to Verizon Wi...

So Motorola is turning into a Verizon OEM

So in other words, Motorola has zip for brand equity. HTC can make the next "Droid" and Motorola has nothing to go on.

Their entire success is based on Verizon pushing the crap out of their phones.
Agreed. Droid, Droid Eris, Devour, and now 2 more Moto Droids? WTF?

Sprint-Zero. Oh sorry, one from fricken Boost Mobile.

AT&T-One

T-Mobile- One

Pathetic.

I think it is well worth the risk. Look at all of the Android phones on the market today, none of them have failed and although there is limitations by OS version you never hear that they are having issues. Anything with Android will work well and pro...

Likely one of them is the Motorola Shadow.

And I know a few of you are psyched about the Shadow, or whatever it ends up being called once it's official.

Vzn sure is pushing out the Droid's!!!!!
I hear that the Shadow may have MOTOBLUR. I sure hope not.!!! I'm holding out on getting the incredible just to see what motorola will be launching. If the phones have MOTOBLUR I will go with the Incredible.

verizon, are you that threatened by the evo?

It seems to be since you blasted release info about incredible, iphone 4g rumors and now new droids with info about 4g plans? When have we ever known verizon being so willing to release such info to the public in such short span of time with competitive phones.

Verizon always has been stingy, fat pocket, and secretive. Since when do they ever do this is all I'm saying. For someone that has nearly twice the customer base, it sure is making an attempt to keep them.
Hmmm, good points; I didn't think of it before you mentioned it. Everyone is getting pretty geeked up over the EVO and for good reason. The Incredible is a pretty damn good phone but next to the Evo....well, I saw them displayed side by side in Best...

That IS the idea. Can't say that I blame them. Do you?

motorola Droid II and the AKA Shadow

One of the devices will be the Motorola Droid with a few cosmetic changes, one being the lip at the bottom. Also will have the same size screen. The other will be the Motorola Shadow but they will not call it the Shadow, it is going by another name.

I tried to pass this information to androidcentral like last week or earlier this week but they ignored me.
Because unless you have screenshots to back it up, all you're saying is speculation

and they knew the shadow was coming, and a new droid is kinda a no brainer judging by how well the first sold.
