Today HTC announced that Microsoft has given it permission to use some of its intellectual property in HTC handsets that use the Android platform rather than Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but HTC will pay Microsoft to license the intellectual property in question. The deal let's HTC cross pollinate some of the technologies and user interface elements found in Windows Mobile with those of the Android platform. HTC has heavily customized both the Android and Windows Mobile platforms with its Sense and TouchFlo user interface overlays. By licensing Microsoft's patents, it gives HTC greater freedom to customize its Android devices.
