Google recently indicated via a blog post that the HTC Droid Incredible is taking the place of a Verizon-compatible version of the Nexus One. Google writes in its blog, "If you’ve been waiting for the Nexus One for Verizon Wireless’ network, head over [VerizonWireless.com] to pre-order the Droid Incredible by HTC." Vodafone, part owner of Verizon Wireless, will still sell the Nexus One in the U.K.

This doesn't make any sense

Oh don't get me wrong, the N1 seems redundant with the Droid Incredible, but could someone please explain to me...

1) HTC is who makes the Nexus One. Why the hell was the right hand not talking to the left hand.

2) How can Motorola NOT be PO'ed? I don't think that this necessarily killed Droid sales, but it sure as hell took a lot of wind out of its brand.

One month after the flagship Android handset is released, Google announces the Nexus One and says "Oh it's coming to Verizon." Only to not have it come to Verizon.

3) I don't even know what the purpose of the Nexus One is.

The real fallout-
I'm guessing Motorola's commitment to the 'Droid' is waning fast. (It's not really like the Droid is exactly unique hardware, and ...
I actually agree with you for a change (strangely enough). Just makes Google AND Verizon both look stupid.
We're not seeing everything that's going on behind the scenes.

If I had to guess, I'd say that it was just taking too long to get the CDMA Nexus One out there and that whatever Google's got in their pipeline next was going to encroach upon it.

Now who didn't see that coming...

Personally I think the Incredible is better anyway. N1 is just stock Android which I find bland. The SenseUI enhances the Android experience
I might agree but the only thing that would sway me towards the N1 is the near instantaneous release of updates. HTC has to go over updates because of their overlays (ie. Sense UI).
Other than that though, I agree wholeheartedly with you.

Hmm, and what of Sprint?

Hopefully not replaced by the EVO, as that will probably cost a bit more and is almost too large for my taste.
I think both are 4.3" display
See, I'm not the only one who thinks 4.3inches is too big for a cell phone!

Well I guess we can add the R.I.P. to....

The fact that the Nexus One was a "quality phone" working on "bad networks". It was junk from the start, and now we can look past that into bigger and better things. 😁
I hope that the quotations implied sarcasm.

Wow, glad I pre ordered my Incredible.

I still like the look of the N1, but so be it. I just hope the HTC Incredible is incredible since I'll have it for two years.
haha, it looks like a really decent phone, I like the looks of the N1 better myself though.
I like the look of N1 hardware-wise but find the standard layout of Android 2.1 UI quite bland.

I preordered my HTC Incredible and find the presence of Sense UI on it quite refreshing compared to just Android UI. Hope it is truly Incredible as I am...
