Today the Bluetooth Special Interest Group announced that it has complete work on the specifications for Bluetooth 4.0. Bluetooth 4.0 builds on the improvements made in Bluetooth 3.0+HS, but allows Bluetooth radios to operate using much less power. The spec is meant to allow small devices, such as watches, sensors or medical monitors, operate efficiently. It will also work in mobile phones. The Bluetooth SIG expects to see devices with Bluetooth 4.0 hit the market by the end of the second quarter of 2010.
