Apple, HP, Others Sued Over Bluetooth Patents

Today a Canadian company called Wi-Lan Inc. filed a lawsuit in the U.S. against Apple, Dell, HP, Intel and 15 other companies for infringing upon a 1996 patent it holds regarding Bluetooth technology. Wi-Lan says that the computer and phone companies named in the suit are deliberately violating the patent, which entails a "method for frequency sharing and frequency punch-out in frequency hopping communications network." The company is seeking triple damages, because it believes the companies are "willfully" infringing on the patent.

Be fair, let them get paid, but how much?

OK, so lets say this company is right, if they actually deserve to get paid out...

How much should they get?
Why do they want triple?
Why did they wait 14 years (give or take)

And most importantly,

Who cares?
People always ask why these companies "wait" to file lawsuits... because making a strong case takes time. The last thing you want is to lose your case AND get slapped with the costs involved for losing!

14 years is a bit longer than the normal thou...
