Today AT&T announced that it will begin selling a new energy efficient charger for wireless phones in May. The AT&T Zero Charger will sense if a phone is plugged in or not. When no phone is attached to the charger, it will draw no current from the socket. When a phone is plugged in, the charger it will charge the phone and then reduce the amount of energy it draws when the phone reaches its maximum charge. AT&T said the charger should be compatible with most phones, and will be packed in 100% recycled materials. AT&T says that the charger has a five star energy rating, and has been approved by the GSMA. AT&T said the charger will be priced similar to other replacement chargers.

I actually agree that chargers should be more efficient

Have you ever noticed how hot your chargers get when they are going? I think that more efficient power supplies should be implemented because of the sheer numbers of them out there. Waste of energy if you ask me.

I don't need accessories from a wireless company!

A signal from the tower to my phone NOTHING else do I need from a frinkin wireless company. I refuse to pay rip off prices! And unlike many of you, I'm not afraid to buy things on ebay for HALF the price.

Screw ATT and their rip off prices!!!
did you notice it said priced "similar" to other chargers? That's exactly what the problem with this so called "green" technology. it friggin costs more!! why would i pay more for something i already have that works just as well if not better.

AHH, don't try to provide me with additional services that I might use but am not forced to! AHH don't try to do anything I don't like with your company... And you're going to Big Red?? Good luck
Then don't buy it, simple as that. They're not saying you are required to buy these chargers.

On another note, these would actually end up saving you (albeit a small amount) of money by not drawing any power when a phone isn't plugged in.

But I...

I wish more products did this...

Like TV's, computers, microwaves...or anything. I think if there was some way of shutting off these appliances when they weren't being used, it'd save all of us money on electric bills...
There is a way greenie, its called a power on/off button and most appliances already have them.

all phones should have SOLAR panel on back!!!!

when you not using your phone at home, put it near the window to let the sun charges your phone!
I usually charge my phone overnight while i sleep, so.....now what. Fyi there are solar phone chargers if you dont mind paying $40+ for one that will take hours to fully charge your phone.

as long as its the same

I believe the EU passed a law for the shape of the plug to all be the same. I have been noticing more plugs being the microUSB across manufacturers here as well.

As long as its the same plug, and we don't keep creating a different plug for each generation of phones, then it saves money for the consumer and manufacturer.
