In a recent interview with Forbes, a Sprint spokesperson said that the company plans to launch a WiMax-equipped phone by the end of June. That date is several months sooner than Clear (Sprint's WiMax network parter) has told Phone Scoop that such a device would be available. When contacted, a Sprint representative confirmed for Phone Scoop that it "expect[s] it to be available this summer." No firm details were provided about the device itself.

verizon @ att lagging?

is it me or does it seem like verizon and att are lagging because they are so worried about each others coverage maps or whos faster then who, in the mean time it seems like sprint quietly keeps getting better and better!! i just switched to sprint from verizon and im quit suprised with their service... my data speeds smoke verizons 😁
...when Sprint's coverage and quality of coverage even come CLOSE to matching Verizon's, then get back to us.

Without NY or LA it's irrelevant...

Clear's gotta get it up one of those markets and fast if they wanna make any kind of impact. I been hearing mixed reviews about WiMax from my friend over in Philly but for the most part he's satisfied but he doesn't believe it will have an edge over LTE
It already does have an edge over lte, it EXIST!!

As good 3G as ANYONE and first for 4G! Sprint Rules!

PC World confirms: You can't beat Sprint's dependable 3G network

Let Verizon and AT&T duke it out over maps. The latest PC World 3G tests show that no network is more dependable than Sprint’s. For the second consecutive year, Sprint’s Now Network was proven as second-to-none in a 13-city 3G test by PC World.

Last year, Sprint won the network contest with 90.5 percent connectivity at reasonable speeds. This year, while also building the first 4G network from a national wireless carrier, we actually improved our connectivity rates to 94 percent. In addition, Sprint had 100 percent connections in Baltimore, Portland and San Diego.

The PC World results, released today, show Sprint tying AT&T in overall reliab...

BAD ASS SPRINT!!!

I'm already enjoying Clear here in Seattle, and I will be all over their first phone! I give sprint a lot of crap, but there is no doubt the quality of their wimax network anyone who says different simply doesn't know!

Whenever Sprint gives you a timeframe, add another 6 months to it...

I am not knocking them. I have been a subscriber for over 8 years. I love their actual coverage, their customer service have been getting a hell of a lot better, and their phone planes are unbeatable.

However, phone selection could be a tad bit more competitive (hopefully this will give them that edge), and when they give the market a time frame for anything, it always seems like they don't live up to it. Not knocking them, just speaking the truth.

But nonetheless, this is great news for the company, and hopefully they WILL live up for the summer 4G handset time frame.
Actually, June would already be three months later than they had hinted at in the past. By your logic they would only delay it another three months. I disagree. I think they will release it in June at the latest and it will be the Supersonic.

Awesome!

This is great news! Sprint needs some good news and this certainly qualifies. I maintain that we NEED Sprint AND T-Mobile to thrive.
This really is awesome news. Once these phones launch this will literally be a the only big difference between devices vs. any company. I.E. the iphone and adroid, web os etc. are all almost equally on the same playing field (technically) - but a 4G p...

CL or IL this summer

Unfortuantely, from all of the articles that I have read on this, it looks like only Corpoater Liable accounts will be getting this first when it comes out. I wonder what the wait to the Individual Liable consumers will be. Maybe still end of the year.

Fingers crossed...

...for a sooner-than-later release of a Palm webOS WiMax phone as one of the "dozens of devices" coming this year.
