Verizon Wireless Sets October 28 for Droid Announcement
Verizon Wireless has ramped up an advertising campaign to raise awareness of its upcoming Droid device, to be made by Motorola and run Google's Android OS. Now, Verizon has pegged October 28 as the date it will announce the new phone. Verizon labeled the device the "most desirable" and "must-have" phone of the year.

Motorola today announced the Z Play Droid, a more affordable Android smartphone that is compatible with the company's Moto Mods system of modular attachments. The Z Play Droid is almost indistinguishable from the Z Force Droid: it has a thick profile with a metal frame and glass front panel.

Motorola today announced the Motorola One and Motorola One Power, two inexpensive phones that run the Android One platform. Motorola says these phones will be among the first to be updated to Android 9 Pie, and will receive security/feature updates for three years.

Google today kicked off a teaser campaign for a phone-based announcement that will take place on October 4. The company launched a web site with the address of madeby.google.com, and it specifically asks people what they want from their phones.

ZTE today said it is exploring fundamental changes to its Project CSX Hawkeye smartphone and is cancelling the current Kickstarter funding campaign. Project CSX started as a community-based program to create a smartphone with features imagined by the public.
