Microsoft announced today that it is now accepting application submissions from developers for its forthcoming Windows Marketplace for Mobile. To spur developer interest, the company is running a "Race to Market Challenge", where developers have a chance to win a Microsoft Surface table or free online promotion of their app. The Marketplace is Microsoft's answer to Apple's App Store and similar services that make software easy to discover and download directly on smartphones. Microsoft will certify each app submission on various criteria, a process that should take about 10 days initially.
