New Tech Reduces OLED Energy Consumption by 75%
Jul 17, 2009, 10:02 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology have made a significant improvement in the energy consumption of organic LED (OLED) display technology. The researchers discovered a new type of surface plasmon enhanced OLED by using heat to deposit silver nano-particals on a cathode in a vacuum. The result is a 1.75 increase in photoluminescence and a two-fold increase in light intensity. This will create brighter displays that use less energy. Such displays could be used to prolong battery life in devices such as mobile phones.
