Ericsson to Take Over Operation of Sprint's CDMA and iDEN Networks

Today Sprint announced a new deal with Ericsson that gives day-to-day operational control of its wireless networks to the provider of that equipment. The deal, which Sprint is calling "Network Advantage," will transfer 6000 Sprint employees to Ercisson, who will then use Ericsson's networking knowledge base to operate and maintain both Sprint's CDMA and iDEN networks. Sprint says it will retain full strategic control over its networks and retains the ability to pick and choose those vendors it thinks best for the network. Ericsson will use Sprint's diverse assets to better manage the networks and provide back-end support. The deal will last for seven years, and will see Sprint paying between $4.5 and $5 billion for Ericsson's services. The move is meant to help Sprint focus better on what it calls its core competencies, including "revolutionizing the customer experience as it's done with Ready Now, its value plans, or delivering iconic, highly-sought-after products." Sprint did not provide details on how this affects its previous agreements concerning the operation of its wireless networks.

But, all you fanboys prob just think this is their last ditch effort before collapse.

True, Sprint-Nextel is making good progress in a lot of areas, and they deserve credit for those improvements and successes.

But anyone that believes management's nonsense that Sprint-Nextel will save a ton of money while getting a better network i...

Mr. Hesse this is all fine and dandy but your company is losing money and your customers are dropping faster than flys on dog poop. So you'll save some money. Big deal. Your service will still suck.

Big news

Sprint is freeing up a ton of operating capital with this deal. The money saved on 6k employees alone would be worth it, plus they now don't have to pay the day-to-day costs of the networks, nor worry about them...excellent move. This will allow Sprint to transition back into an innovator in wireless, something it hasn't been in a long time.

This should allow for better handset deals, and most certainly a better customer experience on the front end. I see my stock going up soon.
ha..ha.. Sprint stock isnt going anywhere... So people bought stock in a company that cant run itself?? That is, in any direction other than down??

what I think is crazy

is that sprint doesn't even sell ericsson phones, I guess they will now
lol. ericsson doesn't make cdma phones. after the sony deal they only make gsm equipment. but ericsson is a different company than sonyericsson, one makes equipment, one makes phones.
