Today AT&T announced a change in its policy regarding iPhone 3GS upgrades. Those iPhone owners who were eligible for upgrades in July, August or September of this year, their eligibility will be bumped up to Friday, June 19. These customers will receive the new-contract pricing of $200 and $300 for the 16GB and 32GB iPhone 3GS, respectively. AT&T also confirmed — again — that MMS will be available late this summer, and that tethering will also be available at some point in the future. AT&T also answers a lot of other iPhone-related questions in a video it posted to YouTube today.

isn't this bogus

I purchased my 3g iphone last July,
which means the soonest i would be eligible for an upgrade is 18 months later (December).
so allowing people who would be eligible for upgrade in July-sept. helps neither me or any other iphone early adopter to purchase the 3gs at the discounted price.
By my reckoning we're all still left out in the cold! This "allowance" will only benefit non-iphone owners with an early opportunity to jump on the iphone bandwagon.

So, bottom line did ATT screw us over or am I missing something?
The only thing you are missing is that you have to be a iPhone 3g customer to be eligible for upgrade in july, august, and September of this year. It is kinda bogus still because while they are helping those people upgrade, they are still leaving many...

Actually the earliest you could upgrade would be July 09 if you had good payment history with us and maintained a monthly bill for your line of $99.99. The 18th month upgrade is for people who chose to have limited feature and low minutes rate plans....

Biased Bastards...

This amazes me. They have other subscribers that have been 100 percent loyal to their company far longer than most Iphone customers. Through merges, buyouts and name changes. Good times and bad times and this is what they get? Unless you own an Iphone, your just a piece of garbage. Next change they make will be that you can't become a subscriber unless you buy an Iphone!

I really don't see why the Iphone users can't wait until they are eligible like the rest of the wireless world.

Had to correct that.

The iPhone users are most of the time our highest paying customers so out of normal business sense we will give more privliages to anyone interested in an iPhone (and a $30 data plan) than to someone who wants a Razr with data blocked. 😳

More Smoke Being Blown

Great; Yes customers we know we could have had all this ready to go by the time iPhone 3G S was to launch but we got lazy. Yes customers we are now doing this late and we dont have a hard date for the tethering but its coming.
OOohh and yes customers you will need to pay our high fee's for using our lousy service.
Much like there service UNRELIABLE.... 🙄

I dont know why Apple still stays with them? if it wasnt for Apple AT&T would be outta business 😈
Im waiting until AT&T can get there crap together....
I'm not sure about where you are, but I haven't had issues in a long time with service on AT&T (I don't have an iPhone).

AT&T is doing this because
a) They want to keep as many customers in contract as possible, paying that data premium for an iPh...

Still Sucks. I would rather use two tin cans and a string than that POS service.

AWSOME!!!

This is great news the only thing that creeps me out is the fact the guy in the video looked like he was undressing the watcher with his eyes... everyone can agree on that

Here is the entire statement from AT&T regarding iPhone 3GS upgradeability.

Wanted to let you know that we’ve decided to make a change in how we price iPhone 3G S for certain current customers. Even though our pricing is fair, we understand how passionate our customers are about this new device. Some iPhone 3G customers told us that they were just a few weeks shy of getting the very best price on iPhone 3G and asked us to do something about it. This is largely because iPhone 3G launched on July 11, 2008, and the new device is launching 11 months later.

As a result, we are changing the date when some iPhone 3G customers are eligible for our best upgrade pricing on the new iPhone 3G S. Beginning June 19, iPhone 3G customers eligible for an upgrade in July, August, or September will get our best upgrade pr...
