Verizon Offers MiFi Portable Hotspot

Verizon Wireless recently announced the Novatel-made MiFi 2200. The concept is simple. The MiFi includes a radio that will connect to Verizon's 3G data network, similar to a standard laptop dongle. It also doubles as a Wi-Fi hotspot, and will allow up to five PCs or other Wi-Fi-enabled devices to connect to the hotspot simultaneously. The MiFi runs on a rechargeable battery, which will last 4 hours on a single charge. Plans start at $30 for 250MB of monthly data, or $60 for 5GB of monthly data. These two plans require a two-year subscription, but allow you to buy the MiFi for $100 after rebates. Verizon will also allow users to buy the MiFi at full retail price and use it when-needed at a rate of $15 for 24 hours of access.
