Today Cellular South announced a dramatic expansion of its 3G coverage across the state of Mississippi. Cellular South will bring 3G service to 78 more cities across 26 Mississippi counties during the second and third quarters of 2009. With this expansion, Cellular South will cover two-thirds of Mississippians with 3G, and 29 of the state's 30 largest cities. Cellular South, which is a privately owned company, uses CMDA-based EVDO for its 3G network.

Cellular South + Divested Alltel/VZW + US Cellular ??

Why Not?

Why shouldn't a buyout, merger or third party aquisition happen?

I think it would provide a a step closer to creating a more competitive capalistic market due to the large gap that is being created by vzw/att over the rest.

It would not place them in the same league customer wise but it would expand their native markets and able them to provide a more national footprint.

A finacial advantage would be realized with reduced roaming cost and a postential stratgical possition with other carriers like (metro and cricket) to stop exclusivities and require 3g/4g roaming.

Any thoughts?
This would never happen, because it would require that Cellular South produce capital for the buyout (which it doesn't have) or be bought out by someone else (which the owners would never allow).

cell south is great actually!!!!

down here they really can't be beat. they have the best coverage in the state... at&t cannot even come close and verizon uses them as a roaming partner... their 3G isn't as fast as at&t but it works in more places.
Verizon still uses them as Roaming, but now we access Alltels network, and Alltel has 3G all over the state. I like Alltel's network a lot more then Cell South.

Roaming Revenues

I wonder if Cellular South is going to be able to continue offering a Nationwide plan now that they will no longer receive any roaming revenues from Verizon? I know that the require like 50 or 65% of the usage to be in network on that $79.99 Nationwide offeribg they have.
