T-Mobile issued a statement regarding the availability of the HTC G1 Android phone, which will go on sale beginning October 22. The spokesperson said: "Given the great anticipation and the heavy pre-sale demand for the T-Mobile G1, [T-Mobile] nearly tripled the number of phones initially available for delivery on the Oct. 22 launch date, and have sold through them all. However, to accommodate additional T-Mobile customers who want to pre-order a device, they now have the opportunity to place a pre-order through Oct. 21, for delivery at a later date.People can still pre-register on the T-Mobile G1 Web site to be notified prior to launch where they can purchase the device beginning Oct. 22."

What are the numbers?

Instead of saying, "they're out of units" or "we're making three times more devices to meet demand", how about they give us hard numbers, like how many units they have on-hand (throughout the country) and how many people are demanding the device. It's not enough to say that each store will have either 20 or 40 units, since they haven't made it clear which stores in which cities will carry it, because of their 3G coverage. Hopefully, coverage will double in 2009.
Well any store in a 3G market will get them instore to sell on Oct.22nd. None 3G markets will have demos but customers will have to order them.

From what I have heard rumors are between 25000 and 50000 preorders.

Camping out on Oct. 21st....

I'm bringing a chair, coleman propane grill and a chest full of drinks. Anyone want to bring the burgers and wieners... Phoenix, AZ. 😁
What's the point of having a cool phone if you don't have any reception.
This is such an AWSOME phone.

I left T-mo last year, and frankly am not looking back, their network is bad here and the data is slow..really slow.

but they struck gold on this one.

this is hte best phone concept i have seen yet.

Big n...
Actually t-mobile network is still horrible and its 3g network is gonna be a big joke. Limited almost no coverage in most areas have you seen the 3g map bearly covers anything. I love how t-mobile fans get pumped up about nothing. The only reason this...
Now this phone is just fugly, if you want an android phone wait for the Samsung and the LG phone which will be hot. I am waiting till next year for the Samsung and LG to release their version.
Why this phone is hideous...why would you want to wait outside in anticipation of this piece of junk. you would think they would have made it a lil more stylish looking. instead they opted to make it big and clunky.

G1 demand

Keep in mind people, less than half of the inital G1 stock was set aside for pre-orders after the adjustments. Stores should be able to accomidate most of the overflow early adopters. I work at one of the smallest/slowest stores in any market and we are expecting at least 20 units for launch day alone. 10 black 5 brown 5 white. Most average volume stores will have approx 40 on hand per location - 20 black 10 brown 10 white. Also keep in mind if you plan on rushing out on launch day to go to an actual t-mobile location because authorized dealers willhave less if any at all on hand.
