Qualcomm Loses Patent Appeal to Broadcom
Sep 25, 2008, 10:20 AM by Eric M. Zeman
The federal U.S. Court of Appeals has affirmed the initial decision that Qualcomm infringed on two of Broadcom's patents concerning wireless technology. As part of the affirmation, it is upholding the injunction against Qualcomm, which allows it to sell the infringing chips in question through January 2009 so long as it pays Broadcom royalties. To date, Qualcomm has not paid the royalties and has been found in contempt. Broadcom and Qualcomm have entered into settlement talks to hash out a licensing agreement over the patents in question.
