J.D. Power and Associates announced the results of its latest study concerning quality of cell phone calls. Verizon Wireless ranked number one in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and West Regions, and tied Sprint for number one in the Southwest. Alltel ranked well in the Southeast and North Central regions. Notably absent from the rankings are AT&T and T-Mobile. J.D. Power surveyed 22,000 people and asked them about dropped calls; static/interference; failed connection on the first try; voice distortion; echoes; no immediate voice mail notification; and no immediate text message notification.

Lost all respect for JD Power

There are over 300,000,000 people in the United States. You are taking a poll on the US off of only 22,000. They evacuated more people because of Gustav than that. Also you claim that Sprint who no longer owns there towers and is yearly dead last in customer complaints to have the best coverage in the Southwest.

I use to drive a eighteen wheeler truck all over this great country of ours, I can say from experience that AT&T hands down has the best coverage in the US.

How did JD Powers know who had mobile service and who did not. It could be that AT&T and TMobile protect there customers information better than the other companies. Just a little food for thought.
Actually, I'm sure 22,000 is a large enough sample size. Take a statistics class & then judge a survey, kthx.

There is always a question on how polls are conducted and your argument has some merit. But you can't hand 300,000,000 people phones. It has to be done on a smaller scale and then then the percentage will be factored in as a representation of the majo...

att def doesnt have the best coverage, verizon does, everyone knows that. however the poll was on call clarity and dropped calls. vzw wins hands down. tmobile has the worst coverage. everyone knows that. how long ago did you have verizon? att used to ...

That gives you experience with highway coverage. Unless you also drove your 18 wheels up and down every block of every city, you aren't all that special.

Considering that people surveyed were all picked at random and all in equal number per available carriers in each state, this is a quite decent result. Before you start yapping at me that I am Verizon fanboy just because of my name I will let you know...

the other three threads

i think a lot of people are forgetting between all the "facts" that are being thrown around, is that these are OPINIONS of the people who use those carriers.

just that no facts from the users ... just their opinons.. and whether they arepissed off at the carrier over a bill or they dropped a call ten minutes before they answered the survey or what ever. they are just opinions...
This is absolutely a true point of view. They are just "opinions" While Verizon has a reputation for call quality and coverage, other carriers have the benefits over Verizon and their sacrifices. It is up to the subscriber and their experience with th...

Just goes to show you CDMA is superior

Why bother polling att and teenmobile we all know they blow!
Agreed. I wonder how LTE is going to fair being gsm based...
...
I agree with you on CDMA being better. Its the newer technology, its been proven, its dependable, there is less dropped calls, call quality is better, Data is transferred faster and easier and most importantly its more secure. CDMA is also expandable ...

So true it has been my experience that GSM truly sucks
You are correct CDMA is superior, but it's not a world standard. Unfortunately I can not take a Verizon/Sprint Phone and be in Paris tomorrow, Tokyo the next day, Sao Paolo for the weekend, and back home for Monday work.

Who can ATT and T-Mobile. ...

Yeah because over paying for the same plan is so much better. 😉 If you want to be a verizon fanboy then go to their forums. Verizon is good but way over priced and their coverage is no better than everyone else.
...
This is CDMA just in the U.S. I have seen SIM cards for CDMA phones in China. does not necessarily mean better service

Here is a stretch - conflict of interest

One of the Board of Directors of Mcgraw (the parent of JD Power) was the head of Cable and Wireless.

Cable and Wireless bought part of MCI/Worldcom which in turn was purchased by Verizon. hmmm. Makes for an interesting conspiracy theory.

Just looking for an out.

Albuquerque

For the Southwest, this is surprising, as Sprint is the worst carrier in Albuquerque. I have been very happy with AT&T here.
