FCC Delays Roaming Rule Vote

Article Comments

Aug 24, 2008, 8:40 PM   by Eric M. Zeman

The FCC has decided to refrain from making a decision on certain cellular roaming issues that some carriers are at odds over. The issue being contested involves the rights of smaller carriers that own spectrum in certain markets — but have not yet built networks in those markets — to roam on the existing networks of larger rivals. The FCC had initially thought to extend those roaming rights for four years, but FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and the other commissioners cannot come to a consensus on the issue. No new time frame for making a decision was made clear.
