Intel Reports Wireless Charging Breakthrough

Intel recently demonstrated technology that would allow people to recharge electronic devices, such as cell phones, wirelessly. The technology makes use of electric coils that are set to resonate at the same frequency. This lets them transmit energy to each other when set apart. Intel lit a 60 watt lightbulb from three feet away, and was able to make this work with a 75% efficiency rating, which is very good. The technology still needs work, but the researchers expect that people will be able to charge cell phones, laptops and other electronic devices without plugging them into power outlets in the not-too-distant future.

Cancer

Oh this is a great idea. Cellphones and Bluetooth already cause cancer now you can walk into your friends house and get cancer causing radiation in you too.
Dr. DarkStar, can you show me an article published in a medical journal with definitive proof that Bluetooth and cellphones give me cance?
I suppose you don't go out in the sun either then? I'm sorry, that was uncalled for. But seriously, it's easier to name something that gives you cancer than something that doesn't, and this is one of the few things that there's no proof that it causes...

There was once some concern that analog phones might cause health issues, but today's digital phones output a fraction of the radio energy of old analog models.

I remember a 20/20 special a few years ago that "exposed" the high radiation of a numbe...

Question.

I don't know anything about how this works, and I'm still pretty sure electricity is actually voodoo(that's a joke) so in order for this to work would the devices have to have an unobstructed line of sight to each other or could you carry a wireless charger around in your bag and have it charging all of your devices?
You should check out the article: http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/08/22/wireless.p ower.ap/index.html?eref=rss_tech

They said that you could put the coils that transmit the "WiTricity" (their word, not mine) in the wall of a house and put smaller recei...

I wonder if it will work...

For recharging my spaceship 😁
This is seriously cool. I wonder how long before it is available to the general public.
I'd be shocked if it was available before the 2nd half of 2011,. . .just my personal guess, that's all.

Star Trek tecknology is indeed on the way.

3 feet away?

WOW! I'd settle for setting my phone down on a mousepad sized surface. a 3 foot range just seems like it would electrify my scrotum or something.
