Samsung's Instinct Gets Updated Firmware, Will Get Java Apps
Jul 31, 2008, 1:39 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Sprint has made a firmware update available to users of the Samsung Instinct. The update makes some small fixes to bugs, as well as enhances audio performance when using Bluetooth and stabilizes the battery and signal indicators. The firmware update is available through the phone's menus. Sprint is also readying Java applications for the Instinct, despite some issues that could stand in the way. The Java MIDP typically supports devices with standard keypads. Because the Instinct is a touch screen device and doesn't have keys, any Java apps need to be modified specifically for the Instinct. Software that is not modified for the Instinct won't work as intended. Even though this issue has yet to be fully resolved, Sprint is encouraging developers to create applications for the Instinct by offering cash prizes.
