Updated: added info about where it is available
Today Palm announced that it will begin making an unlocked version of the Centro available for $299. The unlocked version will be similar to the quad-band GSM/EDGE version that is available through AT&T. It will be white and can be purchased directly from Palm's web site. Palm also announced that Google has made its Maps for Mobile with My Location available to users of the Centro. Now Centro users will be able to use Google's location services to help aid in developing directions and other mapping services. Maps for Mobile with My Location is a free download from Google.
i hated palm to but love the centro
yes i was once like you all and hated palm but when the centro came out i loved it dont know why its just alot better then other palm phones and very easy to use
Will PALM just go away please!
I know a lot of people that pass on the PALM operating system because it really stinks.
I spoke to a PALM rep a few weeks ago in an airport. I told him why I didn't carry a PALM. I was hoping that he would say something to convince me. He didn't even try.
He didn't mention that they sell Palms with Windows Mobile? 😲
PALM IS DONE IN THIS WIRELESS BUSINESS, PUT A FORK IN THEM, THEY ARE DONE! THEY ARE SO DIFFICULT TO WORK FOR AND WITH, JUST GO AWAY YOU PALM PEOPLE!!
Where will one be able to purchase it?
I have not seen a Palm store (either in a mall or by itself), and I doubt AT&T will sell one unlocked (either 2-yr contract or full price).
"It will be white and can be purchased directly from Palm's web site. "
did you even read the article??
my location
Google Maps update with the my location feature works great on my Verizon Centro. Good deal..
features
no wi-fi, gps, and only support up to 4GB? $299 is a rip-off.
8GB works just fine in my Centro. I'd imagine 16GB will be the same when it hits.

Make it 3G
Palm, make this phone 3G and maybe a few more people would buy it. Why have a 3G EVDO version and not a HSDPA or HSUPA version?
This is a nice device otherwise. Good Try.
how soon
before someone walks into a VZW, alltel or sprint store wiht one of these, asking to have it activated.
"but it's unliocked!!! you have to activate it for me!"
