FCC Revisits Public Safety Network

The FCC has said it is going to attempt once more to build a nationwide public safety network with the unsold D block from the recent 700 MHz spectrum auction. The FCC has asked the public to comment on the matter and is looking for ideas on how to make the public safety network an attractive option for potential investors. The previous plan was cited by lawmakers as being too risky an investment for private sector companies. The FCC hopes a new plan can be developed, and the spectrum can be used to standardize emergency communications across the country.

Motorola should buy it

Yep, with all their problems, they should still do this.

Maybe I'm wrong, but here are my reasons:

1) Since it's hard to sell, they can bet a low ball price on the spectrum. Maybe $1 Billion? They have $20 billion in current assets and their balance sheet is $15 billion net positive (assets-liabilities) or $8.5 B current assets - current liabilities.

2) They are already the leader in the US for 2-way radio communications and one of if not the largest provider to public safety right now

3) They've already built the Nextel network, so they can do something similar to provide integrated 2 way and cellular communications.

4) The public safety market is huge, imagine everybody having to convert to have a true nation-wide intero...

Makes sense but it is not that easy given their issues. Their debt was just downgraded and their outlook is negative those two alone will not allow for a purchase of Nextel or even new spectrum. Shareholders would not allow anything until they can act...

Google should buy it and Nextel

Google should buy Nextel from Sprint for pennies on the dollar, then build it out to work on this new freq. Nextel used to get lots of grants and such from the government. Nextel is like a fraternity, you got it you're in. The company would have a virtual lock on that business. There's money to be made. 😲

Are you ok? There needs to be a public safety network.
$4 a gallon gas price is nothing compared to elsewhere in the world. Take a look at http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/global _gasprices/

As for using a D block to build a nationwide public safety network, I'm all for it. It needs to be secure t...
