Cellular South Offers to Pay Switchers' ETFs

Cellular South introduced a limited program whereby it will provide new customers up to a $200 credit on their bills to cover any early termination fees that might be incurred if that customer leaves a contract with another carrier early. The move is meant to remove any barriers that might be preventing potential customers from switching from their current carrier to Cellular South. It did not say exactly how long the promotion will be available.

What is Cell South's ETF?

Because if it's lower than the ETF of the company I'm at now, I could cancel with them, have Cell South pay for it, then pay THEIR ETF to go to a different carrier.

It could at least be cheaper that way, if CS's ETF charge was lower than the one I'm at.
somehow i think you'd have to be with them for a while before they issued the credit at least 1 month. and im pretty sure theirs will be the standard 200$

wow i wish the big 4 would do that...

that way we would have crazy competition and even more freedom. idk who the hell cellular south is because im from chicago but still. they must be smart people for offering such an incentive to switch.
i work for at&t down here and they are the only company us sales people worry about. they have better plans and better coverage. verizon uses them as a roaming partner.

Wow... expensive.

So if Cellular South offers the usual 150 off of a phone and 200 dollar credit to a customer what is the contract? 4 years?
They must really believe the customer will stay with the company beyond the 2 year mark to make money.
most of their customers do. i work down here where they service and they don't have that great of a phone selection but they were the first to offer unlimited (a few years ago) and they have great coverage.

Wait...

I thought that there was some kind of law against this. Something about carriers not being allowed to offer money to coerce customers to leave one carrier for another.
Nope! The original AT&T Wireless offered a $170 dollar credit to cover ETF charges for switchers about a year before they went up for sale. It was their last attempt to turn the company around from bleeding customers and money.
i think the law is that the new carrier cannot pay money directly to the old carrier
