Motorola to Close Singapore Plant

Motorola said that it is going to halt production of mobile phones at one of its manufacturing facilities in Singapore. It will cease production by the end of 2008, and that will result in approximately 700 layoffs. Motorola will continue to operate research and design operations that it has based in Singapore. The move is part of a $500 million cost-reduction initiative.
