Ericsson announced the M700, the world's first fully operational LTE platform for mobile phones. The M700 supports many of the spectrum bands being used by networks around the world, including 700MHz. Ericsson expects that laptop cards and wireless modems will be the first equipment made to access its LTE platform. The platform will be comparable in size and power consumption to today's 3G systems. It will enable peak download speeds of up to 100Mbps, and peak upload speeds of up to 50Mbps. Ericsson is targeting a commercial release date in 2009.
