Verizon Wireless, Loopt Partner On Social Mapping
Mar 28, 2008, 8:10 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Verizon Wireless will begin offering Loopt's social-mapping service beginning next month on 20 Get It Now compatible phones. Similar to Helio's Buddy Beacon, Verizon subscribers will be able to use the location-based services features on their phones to let friends and family know where they are, geo-tag photos, set presence or status and will be able to see their friends' information in turn. The location information can be shared with anyone in a user's contacts or AIM buddy list, and users can set which people can see them and which can't. The service requires users' permission to be active. The service will cost $3.99 per month, on top of any airtime and data download charges.
