Nokia Siemens Networks has announced a software upgrade for existing EDGE networks that can boost wireless data speeds to 592Kbps. The downlink Dual Carrier EDGE technology is called EDGE Evolution, and should be available to carriers in the third quarter of 2008. Nokia Siemens Networks also said that it is working on EGPRS 2, which will further increase EDGE uplink and downlink speeds to 1.2Mbps and 472Kbps, respectively. No time frame for the availability of that software was given.

You are missing the point!

There are millions of blackberry and iphone users who would love to get double or triple thier current data speed for web browsing without having to throw away a perfectly good phone. Its also great for rural areas that will probably never see a true 3G/4G network to get a boost in speed with just a simple software card swap at the tower. Another plus is EDGEs stingy battery consumption compared to 3G. EV-DO is still very much a mixed bag when it comes to actual speeds, so is HSDPA though and Any improvement is a welcome one.
i believe u also need a phone that support this new EDGE+ !
does blackberry and iphone support EDGE+ ?
haha
y not just get a 3G blackberry or a 3G pdaPhone!

T-Mobile Needs To Pounce On This

😉 T-Mobile really needs that badly. They offer the best deal on data and if they keep the same rates or better and implement this type of technology that would be tight as hell.

I totally agree. T-Mobile's EDGE network would definitely benefit from this. If the technology is cheap enough and easy to deploy, this is a definite must for two reasons. Considering EDGE networks are used worldwide, this would benefit those of us wh...
