Nokia Wins A Round Against Qualcomm

Today the ITC held up an earlier judgment that Nokia did not violate three of Qualcomm's patents regarding mobile phone technology. Other litigation between the two companies is still pending.

At its I/O developer event today, Google gave the world a teasing glimpse of its forthcoming Pixel 7 phones and all-new Pixel Watch, both coming this fall. The new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will feature an evolution of the Pixel 6 design that includes a 100% recycled aluminum frame that wraps uninterrupted around the sides and across the camera bar.

Facebook and Ray-Ban have collaborated to create Ray-Ban Stories, "smart" glasses similar to the Spectacles 3 from Snap. Ray-Ban Stories feature dual 5-megapixel cameras that capture photos with depth as well as videos up to 30 seconds.

Chinese telecom giant Huawei announced plans to be more aggressive about collecting royalties for its patents related to 5G technology, including collecting up to $2.50 per 5G smartphone sold. Huawei has over 3,000 patents related to 5G, about 18% of which are essential to the 5G standard, according to intellectual property research organization GreyB.

A federal judge in Seattle has ruled that the FBI violated a defendant's Fourth Amendment rights when it collected evidence by powering on the defendant's smartphone and photographing a notification displayed on the lock screen. The judge ruled that the FBI's actions amounted to a search, even though they made no attempt to unlock the phone.
