FAA Permanently Nixes In-Flight Calling

The Federal Aviation Administration's Les Dorr recently stated that the ban blocking in-flight cell phone calls will remain in place for the foreseeable future. Dorr cited strong public outcry against the proposals as one reason behind the decision to drop in-flight calling plans. In March, the FCC announced its intent to halt attempts to have in-flight calling developed further.

Sounds Ridiculous

I don't get it. Why not ban phones is public, period. Why planes are different then trains, busses, offices or bus stops for that matter.
A plan ride is vastly different from most other public spaces. Even completely ignoring the electronic aspects of it all; physically, socially & psychologically, an airplane is a completely different environment from what most people face every day. ...

People are often impolite using their phones in public. They should be close talking their phones so that the person next to them can't hear what they are saying. I do it all the time on hotel shuttle busses.

It's bad enough being next to Kenny Tarmac when you land...wouldn't want to have that the entire flight!

Does this mean...

that they are also canceling the phones that are in the headrest in front of you? you know the ones where you swipe your credit card to make an in flight call from.
I have noticed these disappearing. They are all gone on Continental planes...
