Google is planning to release a new mobile operating system later this year that will be based on open source Linux. Google has built prototype phones to test the operating system on, but will not actually manufacture, market and sell any handsets. Not only will it produce an operating system, but it will also develop mobile-friendly versions of its existing software products, including a new web browser. Google will license the operating system for free, but advertising will tie into all of Google's mobile services. The OS won't ship on any handsets until 2008.

down with Microsoft

Google is king.

Not only will they make a butt ton of money off of advertising (not at first), but they will dethrone MS as king of the OS.
Yup 🤣 🤣 🤣

A name for it....

The "Pocket Billboard"... as if we aren't exposed to enough advertising already.
I was thinking more as "Pocket Pop-Up"

Who's gonna use it?

Im a little confused...who will actually use the OS? Will they contract with a phone manufacturer? Use their own phones?
Probably contractual agreement with a manufacturer. Only problem is, who wants to make a device that will be filled with ads.
