Samsung today officially announced the a717 and a727 Ultra Series handsets for AT&T (Cingular), though the manufacturer had shown both off at CES. Both phones feature quad-band GSM, dual-band HSDPA, Bluetooth, MicroSD slot and Video Sharing. The a717 is a 13mm thick folder with an internal QVGA screen, an external OLED screen and 2 Megapixel camera. The a727 is a 9mm thick candy bar with a 220 x 176 wide screen and 1.3 Megapixel camera. The a717 will launch on June 4 for $150 with a 2 year contract after a $50 rebate. The a727 will launch later for $100 after contract and rebate.

Samsung A717

The earpiece volume on this phone is horrible. Even at the highest volume, it is impossible to hear on it when in a noisy room.
I can't believe Samsung would put out a product like this and even more disappointed that Cingular decided to sell it.

Not only that, but there was another earpiece volume issue on the phone that I purchased from Cingular.com. The volume of the call went up and down very subtlely, just enough to aggravate the hell out of me.

No OBEX or FTP???

Anybody else notice that neither of these phones have BT profiles for transferring files?
No!!! I didn't notice, that is very, very UNLIKE Cingular!!! I am concerned, I hope your wrong.

By the way, would you fill me in on what profile FTP is, I already know what OBEX is.
...
this is actually being offered in japan as the softbank 706sc. it's a pretty nifty phone actually, the only thing i don't like is that fact that the outside disp is so small. other than that it looks like a good phn.
...
They do have a full set of Bluetooth profiles, even FTP-client, which is rare.
