Alltel, AT&T, Others Join NGMN

Today at 3GSM in Barcelona the Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) organization welcomed U.S. carriers Alltel and AT&T, as well as SK Telecom, Telecom Italia and Telefonica SA into the group. The NGMN is a band of mobile operators that seeks to forge a single vision for the future of mobile communications. The key here is that the organization will help the mobile industry work together through trials and standards recommendations to help technology mature in a way that benefits everyone. Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile International and Vodafone Group (part owner of Verizon) were several of the key founding members.
