OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has provided some detail about the company's forthcoming flagship phone, the OnePlus 6. In a blog post on the company's forums, Lau explained that the company wants the phone to be as fast as possible because speed translates to a better user experience. "Fast is not just about shorter loading times or top download speeds, any OEM can achieve high numbers in one or two metrics. Fast is about creating a lasting impression of speed and smoothness, throughout all-day use, whether you’re recording 4K video or browsing Facebook," wrote Lau. The company has selected the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 premiere processor for the OnePlus 6, which will be offered in configurations with up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Lau admits that picking the best hardware is only half the story. The company has a specialized team called Team FSE (Fast, Stable, Efficient) that focuses on "maximizing the power of our flagship devices." Lau also took the company's forums to talk about the notched display. OnePlus fans expressed displeasure with the notion that the OnePlus 6 will include an iPhone X-like notch. Lau says people will be able to black out the top of the display, which will create the illusion that there is no notch. "Recently many users have raised interest in having a black-out function. We respect your feedback, and would like to give everyone the ability to choose. This function will enable you to black out the background of the notifications and status bar. It will be added in a future software update released after the launch of the OnePlus 6." OnePlus has not said when the OnePlus 6 will arrive. The company generally debuts new hardware in June, but it's possible we'll see the OnePlus 6 earlier. Hauwei's recently-announced P20 and P20 Pro handsets have notched displays that allow users to black out the bars at the top. The iPhone X does not offer this feature.
