MoviePass has updated its iOS application and in so doing pulled unused app location features. The change comes after MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe spoke about how much user location data the company tracks both before and after users attend movies. The revelation was met with disapproval from many. "Today, MoviePass released a new app update, including the removal of some unused app location capabilities," said the company in a statement provided to Engadget. "While part of our vision includes using location-based marketing to enhance the movie-going experience for our members, we aren't using some of that functionality today. Our members will always have the option to choose the location-based services that are right for them today and in the future." MoviePass hasn't said if or when it will make a similar change to its Android app.
