Best Buy has announced it will launch stand alone stores to sell mobile phones and service. These new Best Buy Mobile stores will be operated by Carphone Warehouse, which currently runs a chain of popular mobile shops in the UK. Like the UK stores, Best Buy Mobile will leverage Best Buy's relationships to offer phones and service from a number of carriers, Carphone Warehouse will run a trial this fall, opening a few shops in New York City. More stores are expected to open in select American cities after.

Another reason to shun Circuit City

Apparently Best Buy knows that offering cellular service is extremely lucrative...while CC doesn't have a clue.
what are you talking about. Cicuit City knows how lucrative the mobile business is. They also know how important it is to align yourself with the best cellular provider in the country.

you are a moron..i wouldn't buy toilet paper from bb..and if you keep up with the news..cc has been on an uptrail taking them out...

will your agent store be called best buy mobile next year?

just think of all the agent stores out there.
having a stand alone store such as best buy moving in. would it not make sense to buy out the agent store locations?
how many agents stores example cingular getting hit really hard with the big chains moving in. now with stand alone stores such as bestbuy where are they going to get the land and the area's. then ask your selves how many of your bosses or owners of small agent store are jumping to bail and take the money and next week your store will be called best buy mobile. agents have saturated the areas in city's already. how are they going to compete unless agent owners aether sell out or shut down. and yes customers want free free free. i don't know about you but agents cant compete wi...

maybe best buy will stop selling phones in their bestbuy stores.

maybe best buy will give us little guys a chance to make a living.

but hey it is the price that gets people into the stores not the service, not the knowledge of the loyality of supporting local businesses owners . works for walmart.

the age of stand alone agent stores are coming to an end. best buy is there to kick the other injured knee of the agent and prob buy out there store locations. but who knows.

what do you think. lets here it form the agents out there! this is one more move to shut your stores down.
I totally agree when I first seen this I thought my job was jeopardy instantly. I figured I either better apply with best buy and just hope for the best, that they put me with my 6 years of cell phone exp in that area and in their stores when they op...

Buh-Bye RadioShack

It may be a weird idea...but this would be the perfect way to promote Best Buy's own interests and eliminate a competitor (if they can still be called that). Since RS is only about cell phones now, why not purchase the failing company with its 5000 stores and replace them with the "Best Buy Mobile"?
That is actually a good theory...Especially as cingular, and I assume all carriers, are looking to reduce the amount of different agent owners, and rely on regional owners. ie: owners that have 8-15 stores...I've also noticed a reduction also in multi...

Take that Walmart.

No really, but at least it sounds like a good idea for Best Buy for open these stores. If the price is right, which is the most important thing when people buy service then it should do well for them.

Typo?

"Best Buy has announced it will launch stand alone stores to cell mobile phones and service."

I think they meant sell...or perhaps a really bad attempt at a pun.
