Verizon Launches First 3.2 Megapixel Camera Phone

Verizon Wireless today officially launched the previously-rumored Samsung A990, the country's first camera phone with 3.2 megapixel resolution. Advanced camera capabilities include an auto-focus lens, flash, video capture up to one hour, business card reader, viewing via TV output, and printing via PictBridge or Bluetooth. A twisting display folds back to serve as a large viewfinder in camera mode. The high-end CDMA clamshell phone also supports EVDO high-speed data, including Verizon's VCast and VCast Music services. Other advanced features of the phone include a microSD memory card slot, Bluetooth, and location API to support GPS-based navigation services. The A990 is available today online for $350 after rebates, with a two-year contract. It will be available in stores on July 24.

wow this phone is so worth it!!! it has all the feats i need. i just hope the price stays the same or goes up because i dont want it to end up like the RAZR (everyone and their momma has it!) thats so annoying! 😛
Cannot compete with GSM phones...
Am I missing something or is this just a watered down version of a real multimedia devices such as Nokia N80 and other N-series GSM phones...

Phonescoop was talking about the Sony Ericsson K790 at one time, which was going to have the Sony cybershot technology paired with a 3.2 megapixel camera as well. Do you know when this is coming out to entice the GSM'ers? Also, which has a better came...

what I don't like is at what point does it become more of a digital camera then a cell phone..... look at the lens on this thing its huge.

We all hope and pray that samsung wont blow it but cmon the 930 should have been an easy one to nail and they blew that big time.. D/A voice quality is the worst they have done in years. Hard to hear people, plastic feel etc...
I hope they did this one solid.. The 8300 is freaking amazing except for the huge blue tooth echo problem.. LG is showing some real hope.. If they nailed the Bluetooth the 8300 would have probably been the most perfect release of any phone i have seen..
The 990 and Chocolate have alot to live up to ..

Im getting this for one reason and one reason only .. the camera .. I've been waiting for a good camera phone .. hopefully this is it .. ill post a mini review when i get it

Ah, I think this'll be much, much more eXciting Spring time next year, but we'll just have to wait and see, all I know is that I'm not currently under contract bc I'm waiting for Cingular to offer something that truly is IMPRESSIVE! ! ! ! ! ! !

If you use VerizonWireless's web site to compare this phone to another one, it reports that this phone DOES NOT have a music player. Is that correct?
