New FCC Documents Unveil Sidekick 3 Features

The rest of the documents including pictures and user manual for the Sidekick 3 (the official name used in the manuals) were released by the FCC today. The manual is not complete but does reveal some new features. There is consistent mention of a "trackball" where the scroll wheel used to be. Additional physical changes include what appears to be a plastic keyboard instead of a rubber coated one, and a removable battery. The camera is confirmed to be 1.3 Megapixel unit and pictures can be stored either internally or on a Mini SD storage card. The storage card can also be used to hold music, as the Sidekick 3 now includes a music player. Few details were revealed about the included Bluetooth other than it can be used to send and receive vCards.

Not really that impressive

Its a little smaller than the 2nd sidekick (also not that feature rich). Main dissapointment is only a 1.3 megapixel camera. By the time of its release this is going to be a standard camera. And for one i like to stay above par with the phones i buy. Currently i am running the samsung d600 go check out its features and compare. You may be impressed maybe not. General consensus most high profile phone buyers arent going to be remotly interested in this phone.
That phone sucks man . . . . get the freak out of here!!
...
The D600 has the same camera. I don't see how u claim that your phone is above par. I have the Samsung E730, which is the same phone has yours, but mines is in the flip phone form. Even our OS are the same.
...
WTF? How are you gonna compare a SK with a D600? They are so differant in style and function, I meen really apples and oranges. So you have a video out, wow. A lot of phones have similar features, but to compare a QWERTY PDA-style phone with a small s...

Features

Anyone know any other features that the new SidekickIII will have? Sidekick two is a great phone and has lots of features but the thing is that they are kind of hard to use. There is an alarm clock on a SDK2 but it is hard to setup. Sidekick 1 and two are very much the same as far as features go exept that it has a camera and is thinner. SDK3 look very much the same as the sidekick two in terms of looks. The color is different and so is the back portion as well. It would be nice to have some upgraded and new added features on the Sidekick 3.

P.S what will be the cost of Sidekick 3 i have heard it will be rather close to $300

Do u guys think this is real?

http://www.gadgetell.com/entry/162 »

This link shows a whole line of Sidekicks including SDK4 which is called Sidekick NG. It is talking about a new sidekick which includes music, video, and razr. I think this is fake and can be made by anyone with a computer and the right programs and tools. Stuff like this should be kept top secret. Nowhere on the document does it reconize the company Danger which is the manufactures of Sidekick phones. I want to get some feedback from some of the phonescoop members. Thanks.
To answer your question simply...No it is not real.

The Razr brand and likeness of it is licensed to motorola, so no "razr" sidekick will be out, ever, unless motorola starts manufacturing sidekicks.

Also, Danger does not manufacture the sideki...

Boring

Why always hype on the sidekick?? It's huge and you can do so much more with a PDA such as a Treo or HTC manufactured device... 🙄
It's far simpler than a PDA - some people don't want to have a mini computer, they just want the web & a way to communicate with people (chat & text). It's also much easier to type than some other PDAs. Not everyone needs the email features of a Bla...

and until there is another PDA/Blackberry/smartphone that runs AIM as smooth and most like AOL itself you cant find a better device to use AIM with and Tmo has unlimited messages so another reason you cant beat it

Dimensions of the Sidekick 3?

Does anyone have a clue as to the actual dimensions of the new Sidekick? I am among the many who think the Sidekicks, as cool and as versatile as they are, are just a bit too big.

7-10-06 release date ??

can anyone back me up on this date thx!!!
The T-Mob systems say posters should go up July 9th, but posters never came and the system said "check the June updates for more info", and the June updates say nothing about it. I'de say as of today (6/7/06) it's 50/50 for July 10th

Price of S!dek!ck 3

Anyone know how much sidekick 3 will cost because rumors and T-Mobile employees have been saying it will be $450.00 which is almost $150 more when Sidekick 2 was released.
I doubt it will be anywhere near $400 with a 2 year contract.

Rich / Eric - Any word on the screen resolution?

I'm hoping the Sidekick 3 has a QVGA screen (320 x 240) but many are saying that it's going to be same as the Sidekick 2 which is 240 x 160. Do you have any concrete info?
there were a few screen shots in the manual, all which had the same block look as the current screen. it's unlikely the resolution was improved.

Encouraging

The Bluetooth and Music Player are good news.

I feel a little iffy about the hard plastic keys. I loved the rubbery ones.

Better news for me is EDGE support. I can't wait for somebody with one of these in their hands to compare web browsing speed.

I wonder what class of EDGE? That will make a difference as it competes with the EVDO smartphones.
I dont think EDGE comes close to EVDO speeds...
