Nokia To Boost Multimedia With ATI Chips

Nokia and ATI today announced the companies will work together to bring better graphics and audio to Nokia handsets. The two companies will begin holding workshops together in the second half of this year to introduce developers to ATI technologies. Nokia phones using ATI's hardware aren't expected until the second half of 2007. This announcement is likely associated with ATI's purchase of Bitboys yesterday. Bitboys is a European developer of mobile graphics chips that was funded by Nokia Ventures.

Boost Mobile has introduced the Celero5G, a white-label affordable 5G phone with a unique launch promotion attached. Like T-Mobile's REVVL V+ 5G, the Celero5G is manufactured by Wingtech and powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset, (but the two phones differ in size and specs.) The Celero5G has a 6.5-inch display, 4,000 mAh battery, 4 GB RAM, and 64 GB storage, expandable by up to 2 TB.

Qualcomm has unveiled the Qualcomm S5 and S3 Gen 2 sound platforms, chips intended to power a range of Bluetooth audio products, including high-end and mid-range earbuds, as well as Bluetooth speakers. The big new feature is Dynamic Head Tracking for Spatial Audio, which maintains the perceived positions of sounds as you move your head.

Don't expect too much. Motorola has been using ATI graphics chips since the triplets series. I'm sure they will work on something better for the multi-media N-Series phones, but don't expect PSP type graphics.
