Helio this evening updated their website, launching online sales of its handsets and service. In addition to MySpace integration, Yahoo! search from the home screen and gifting and begging for content, the MVNO also announced other innovative new features. Helio On Top (HOT) allows users to choose pre-selected news feeds to be delivered to their home screen automatically, similar to Motorola's SCREEN3 technology. For those who want more than one phone, Helio will let you switch your account from device to device daily, syncing your contacts and content between the two over the air. The Hero is available online for $275 and the Kickflip for $250, they will also be avilable in limited quantities in select retail stores as of Tuesday. Helio expects up to 1000 retail locations will sell the service by the end of the month. Service includes unlimited data, picture and text messaging, video streaming, free night and weekend calling and more and is priced at $85 monthly for 1000 anytime minutes, $100 for $1500 minutes and $135 for 2500 minutes. A la carte plans - without unlimited data and messaging - start at $40 monthly and include 500 anytime minutes.

Java or Brew?!

🙄
Nobody has mentioned yet, and I am extremely curious, do these phones support J2ME/MIDP java applications, or is it proprietary BREW ala verizon's Get It Now service?
If I have -unlimited- data, I want to be able to use it for -whatever-. 🙂
however the TOU contract says unlimited data is not unreasonable data, so no applications that keep data streams open like virgin radio or whatever

Personally, I think Helio is right on par with the other carriers. I was thinking the samething in comparing them to Verizon Wireless.
