Songza to Be Folded Into Google Music

Dec 2, 2015, 3:32 PM   by Eric M. Zeman

Google today said it plans to shut down Songza by the end of January. Google bought the music-streaming service in 2014. Google initially allowed Songza to operate side-by-side with Google Music even though it incorporated Songza's main feature, human-curated playlists, into Play Music. Play Music users can see Songza's selections as suggested sets that have names like "Music for Wednesday Afternoon" or "Entering Beast Mode" or "Having Fun At Work." The company has begun notifying users that it will cease streaming January 31, 2016. Songza's playlists are ad-supported and free to listen to online and via the Play Music app on Android handsets.
