GE to Make Qualcomm- and Apple-Connected Light Bulbs

General Electric today revealed new collaborations with Qualcomm and Apple that will see its light bulbs interact with consumers' smartphones. With Qualcomm, GE says it will offerer "retailers a way to connect with shoppers' smartphones through technology embedded in LED light bulbs" through beacons, according to Reuters. As for Apple, GE plans to create an LED light bulb compatible with Apple's HomeKit platform that can "change colors to align with the natural rhythms of the body." For GE, the move is meant to help keep the lights on for its lighting business. For Apple and Qualcomm, the deal furthers the adoption of their respective internet-of-things initiatives.
