Cingular Brand Remains, AT&T Statement Clarified

Cingular spokesman Mark Siegel has clarified Ed Whitacre's statements from earlier this week and has assured us that Cingular will continue to sell service nationally under that brand. When forming Cingular, each parent company reserved the right to resell Cingular service under their own brand as part of a bundle of services including wireline telephone, high speed data, and more recently TV as well. Now that SBC has taken the AT&T brand, they could resell Cingular's service under their own brand in areas where the new AT&T is the local Telco. However Mr. Siegel maintains that Cingular will carefully consider any brand they allow the Cingular service to be sold under, indicating this scenario is not as absolute as Mr. Whitacre's initial statement.

Should said somethin sooner

Right after I saw the news here on phonescoop I got an email from Stan Signman(CEO of cingular) (through the chain of command of course, technically from my RAE...), that stated cingular was gunna stay cingular. It would make sense anyways because they have spent soooooo much marketing money on establishing the cingular name after the initial merge/buyout.

Blue to orange...

...and back again? I was going to say...that'd be a lot of store conversions down the pipeline. Pretty confusing for those poor kids manning them. Yeesh.

Sorry for the wait!

Sorry it took us so long to get this one right.

Like many others, we assumed there would be some kind of a retraction or correction from USA Today if they got it wrong... guess not. 🙄

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone! 🙂
You too Rich. Don't pig out.
I sent you a press release from RCR news 2 days ago talking about the mistake 🙄
