The CTIA announced that members have agreed to voluntarily offer content controls to their subscribers. Carriers will provide tools for parents to restrict users under 18 from downloading or viewing adult themed, highly violent or gambling oriented content. In addition, carriers have agreed not to offer such content until parental controls are in place. Later, carriers will attempt to offer tools that will restrict access to off-network internet sites, either as a whole or just specific content using a filter. Some 3G carriers in other countries are already offering mature content and are looking into similar parental controls.
