Japanese Firm Buys PalmSource

Access Co. today announced it will acquire PalmSource for nearly $325 million in cash. Access Co. is a Japanese mobile content provider best known for the NetFront browser. Not only are they interested in the Palm OS to expand their portfolio, but in the Linux expertise PalmSource acquired from China MobileSoft. Neither company has detailed how this purchase will affect the Palm OS but PalmSource is confident development will continue on the platform. Both companies' boards have already approved the purchase, which Access expects to complete before the end of the year.
