A new company, OnwardMobility, is picking up the BlackBerry torch. OnwardMobility is licensing the BlackBerry brand and promises a 5G BlackBerry phone with a physical keyboard in North America and Europe in the first half of 2021.

T-Mobile has started selling the CAT S22 Flip, a unique phone that blurs the line between smartphone and flip phone. The S22 Flip has the size and design of a typical rugged flip phone, but its 2.8-inch main display is a touch screen that provides access to the full Android interface, including third-party Android apps.

Samsung today announced a new commitment to offering "up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades" — as well as five years of security updates — on its premium smartphones. The company previously only promised three years of upgrades.

Google is tightening its Play Store policies to require that apps be updated to newer APIs in order to remain listed for discovery and download. Newer Android APIs have "privacy, security, and user experience improvements".
