Twitter Updates Web to Look Like Mobile Apps

Twitter today said that it has updated the browser version of Twitter.com in order to make it more closely resemble its Android and iOS applications. The changes apply to the full desktop version and the mobile version, and should be available to most users shortly.

Backwards

Why does it seem like were going backwards here? Windows 8 flopped because Microsoft tried the same thing with it's OS. When will manufacturers learn that Smartphones and Desktops are completely different form factors? Most people don't want their desktop experience to feel like a dumbed down tablet.
