Sprint Exploring Technology To Improve Calls

Sprint is rumored to have ordered handsets from Pantech with a new radio chip that could improve transmission clarity and speed on EV-DO handsets. The have been testing Magnolia Broadband's DiversityPlus on phones in New York City. DiversityPlus chips optimize a phone's uplink to the network over two separate antennas, allowing the phone to transmit on which for clearer calls, longer battery life, and lower network usage. The technology works without any changes to the network, simply using the handset will improve transmissions. Pantech subsidiary SK Teletech will be providing similar handsets to SK Telecom, a Korean carrier, for a full scale rollout.

This company has an even better chip...

And is already dealing with major manufacturers...

ETRI (Electronic and Telecommunications Research Institute), SK Telecom, SK Telesys, LG Electronics, Inc., Samsung Venture Investment Corp., Axesstel R & D Center, Ltd., Bellwave Co., Ltd., C & S Co., Ltd., Cablerex, Inc., Hyunseo Data Communications, Ltd., Kisan Telecom Co., Ltd., Megacraft Company, Ltd., Mobianet Corporation, System Mecca Company, Ltd.
Thank you for posting that. The article you linked to is about SDR (software defined radio). IT is really servers a different purpose. Magnolia's technology (though maybe not the chip because it is frequency specific) could be employed with this.

Will Buy that Phone

Magnolia has a unique uplink technology which basically screws with the phase of the signal to get your call back to the base station.

When you combine that with a diversity receive tech from either magnolia or qualcomm you are talking about getting several db more of gain and hence far fewer drop calls. That is my next phone. Diversity receive will use two antennas to sample the air space in two different physical areas (say the top of your phone and the middle of your phone). It will either choose the best signal or it will combine and adjust weak signals.

Now CDMA quality and reception degrade each time someone else uses the system in the cell you are in because that adds interference.

The magnolia chips means that each caller ...

LMAO... oh please...

Sprint couldn't improve it's calls if it's life depended on it. They practically invented the dropped call. Their 1900Mhz can't penetrate through **** either. If they want to improve their signal, they need to get some of Nextel's 800 spectrum. Then they can go head to head with Verizon.
SPRINT IS THE BEST!
I NEVER get dropped calls....

Hmm really? I rarely have a problem with Sprint. I enjoy the freedom of doing what I want with my Sprint phone, instead of having to pay Verizon crap loads of money to do stuff. I like the fact i don't have to buy a data cable just to be able to get f...

Super cool!

That is very interesting. I'm of the opinion that Sprint already has the best call clarity among carries, improvement like this could really set them apart. I guess others would follow. Thoughts
This is very interesting! Sprint has needed to do this for awile now....at least in my area I should say. Sprint has a lot to offer they just don't have great service in my market. Maybe this will bring good things for them here!
are u in the military?
well I mean in this industry, the cell phone industry, the in-door calling is very problematic and needs to be addressed. out of in-doors, coverage is very good, but when you go in-doors its dismal. it is a very good step that sprint does this, howeve...

in addition to my other post to you, I wanted to say that this technology should be pretty interesting and if it does work as well as with their 3 billion in spending for helping in-building coverage it could entice people to leave their land line ser...

What I hate..

is how under rated of a carrier Sprint is just because the years 2001-2003 they had a terrible CEO... billing when people called for customer service... cutting budgets on growth retention and limiting the amount of time spent on tower growth... I think as fas as growth of a company over the last 2 years... not including just merging with someone... Sprint is #1...

BZZZZZZT!

I hope that isn't the sound of a phone with a high SAR rating giving you a tumor.....

I don't know the technology very well, but I hope it doesn't actually mean dialing two calls on separate bands and then dropping the weaker one.
